What We Do
We are dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through educating our children. Our chapter enthusiastically provides many opportunities throughout the year to serve our community through intentional recognition and educational celebratory events. In recent years, we have raised thousands of dollars given to veteran organizations and DAR schools. We partner with local schools to celebrate Constitution Week, identify DAR Good Citizens, recognize outstanding Naval Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) cadets, and sponsor American History Essay Contests for grades five through twelve. Our monthly programs feature top-rated speakers on topics such as genealogy research, history, veteran care, and local non-profits, as well as National Society and state society DAR projects. Below are ways we serve our community.
Promoting Patriotism
- Recognize outstanding community leaders serving Patriots and the military
- Provide donations for local area military support organizations
- Sponsor a resident room in the female wing of the Veterans Life Center
- Send care packages and donations to support active-duty military members
- Participate with our local sister chapter, Yates Mill Chapter, NSDAR, in the annual Wreaths Across America event
- Honor chapter Patriots with recognition ceremonies
The DAR Medal of Honor is the highest award presented to adults who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership, trustworthiness, patriotism, and service.
Our annual chapter Basket Bazaar and Fundraising luncheon raises funds for DAR schools and veterans in need. We are honored to give in this way.
Historic Preservation
- Recognize outstanding Wake County females with Women in American History awards
- Volunteer with a local non-profit in researching Wake County early families and Patriots
- Participate in DAR planning efforts to celebrate America’s 250th birthday in 2026
- Give financial support to our National Society to preserve our historic national headquarters buildings
- Provide volunteers for DAR Genealogical and Patriot Records projects
- Participate in community efforts to preserve and clean up local cemeteries
Asbury Station Chapter, NSDAR, recognizes local women who have significantly contributed towards historic efforts in our community.
We have several chapter members who volunteer at the historic Page-Walker Arts and History Center in downtown Cary.
Joining in community clean-up efforts of local cemeteries is not only important but also essential in preserving their history.
